Description

Who actually enjoys a dead zone? Probably everyone who discovers the original word-guessing game "Dead Zone." And who, despite network problems and incomplete sentence fragments, manages to convey their own words as clearly as possible while also correctly combining the patchy explanations of their fellow players? The easily accessible gameplay ensures a quick start and plenty of excitement when dead zones make communication difficult.

Everyone knows those annoying dead zones. They present quite a challenge in this family and party game and make for less-than-perfect communication. In the "Dead Zone," words like "chocolate" or "piano" await guessing. But that's not so easy, because the descriptions on the word cards, divided into 18 word fields, are covered by at least eight dead zones. Choosing their placement behind a screen is crucial for scoring points in the subsequent guessing phase.

Now, everyone takes a turn reading the explanations for their word—using only the words that are still visible. Now, good deductive reasoning is required, because the incomplete explanations leave room for interpretation. No one should get complacent while waiting, as points are only awarded to the person reading the words aloud and the person guessing correctly.

A "push your luck" element adds even more excitement: Additional points can be won by voluntarily participating in the bonus round. But beware: The up to three additional dead zones naturally increase the risk of not guessing any words at all, resulting in a round with no points.

With "Dead Zone," author Thomas Odenhoven has created an ingenious word-guessing game that is perfect for larger groups of up to 6 players. After about 30 minutes of play, it becomes clear who has the fewest problems with network reception and doesn't get stuck for too long, even with incomplete explanations.
